Key points of heating design for liquid silicone molds

The solidification reaction occurs at a mold temperature of 120-150 ℃ for liquid silicone injection molds, and mold temperature control is crucial.

The surface temperature of the mold needs to be stable. If the surface temperature is too high, it can cause products to burn, parting line cracks, and products to become brittle. If the surface temperature is too low and the curing speed of the adhesive is slow, quality problems such as inability to demold the product may occur.

The temperature of the mold needs to be heated evenly:

Uneven heating of the mold and large temperature difference can cause unstable flow of the rubber material, leading to phenomena such as air pockets and insufficient injection.

Position of heater:

Sufficient distance should be maintained between the heater and the parting line to prevent bending and deformation of the mold, which may lead to the formation of overflow burrs in the finished product;

5、 Key points of pouring design for liquid silicone molds

The design of runner pouring system and cold runner forming are important processing features of liquid silicone.

A cooling system needs to be designed inside the cold nozzle:

There is a significant difference between cold runner forming and hot runner systems. The internal design of the cold nozzle needs to transport water, and an effective insulation layer needs to be set up between the mold cavity and the cold runner to isolate temperature transfer.

If the diversion channel is too hot, the material begins to solidify before injection, and the product is prone to cracking and failure to release adhesive.

 

The cold nozzle needs to be designed with a closed system, automated production, and a shorter cycle:

The design of the cold nozzle needs to adopt a needle valve closed system, with a rubber mouth design between 0.5 and 0.8mm. The valve needle system needs to be designed with a height adjustable structure to facilitate fine adjustment of flow through the needle valve.

▶ Liquid silicone
Liquid silicone is relatively superior to solid high-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber. It is a liquid rubber with good fluidity, safer and more environmentally friendly, and can fully meet food grade requirements.
▶ Solid silicone
Solid silicone is a saturated polymer elastic material with characteristics such as high temperature resistance, cold resistance, solvent resistance, adhesion resistance, electrical insulation, chemical resistance, etc. It has a wide range of applications.
Comparison between liquid silicone and solid silicone
1. Appearance
a. As the name suggests, liquid silicone is in a liquid state and has fluidity;
b. Solid silicone is solid and has no fluidity.
2. Security
a. Liquid silicone is a highly transparent and safe food grade material that does not add vulcanizing agents or other auxiliary materials during molding, and is sealed for feeding and molding;
b. Solid silicone is a transparent and environmentally friendly material that requires the addition of a vulcanizing agent for vulcanization molding time and open mold feeding for molding.
3. Forming method
a. Liquid silicone is injection molded liquid silicone rubber (LSR): its full name is injection molded liquid silicone rubber, and the vulcanization equipment is an injection molding machine.
The injection molding machine has many advantages, such as a very simple process flow (without the need for manual processes such as batching, compounding, cutting, and placement in high-temperature glue technology, only one worker is needed to pick up the product), high product accuracy (all manual programs before molding are replaced by machines), high output (A/B glue is mixed at a certain temperature for a few seconds to form), saving manpower, electricity, and materials, and can produce all products produced with high-temperature glue.
b. Solid silicone rubber molding is a process where the raw material is solid blocks, which are mixed by a mixer and then cut into products and molds of appropriate size and thickness by a cutting machine. The products are then placed in molds and molded under a pressure molding machine at a certain temperature. When demolding, it is similar to plastic products and also requires cleaning the mold.
Forming method
Silicone products are mainly formed in the following six ways:
1. Molding
Compression molding is the most common manufacturing process. Mainly completed by the coordination of molds, the shape of the mold determines the shape of the silicone product. Molded silicone products are usually formed by using a high-temperature mold to add vulcanizing agent to the solid silicone raw material, and then applying pressure through a vulcanizing machine. The high-temperature sulfur forms a solid shape, and the hardness of molded silicone is usually between 30 ° -80 °. This manufacturing process is relatively simple and suitable for all silicone products.
2. Injection
This process requires high quality and is a combination of liquid silicone and plastic.
Its products exhibit good thermal stability, cold resistance, excellent electrical insulation performance, and no toxic substances are produced during combustion
Therefore, it has become an irreplaceable material in the production design of health products, cars, baby products, medical supplies, diving products, kitchen utensils, and seals.
